"Creating a climate of hope, an atmosphere of caring,
and a source of information for all who are touched by thoracic aortic disease
and the medical professionals who care for them."
                                                                               -from the Bicuspid Aortic Foundation Home Page

If someone had asked me prior to the Conference what I hoped it would be, I would have pointed to these words from the Foundation web site. Hope, caring, information - this is a powerful combination. And it is very needed by those who live with BAVD/TAAD.

The Foundation is deeply grateful to those who shared their time, expertise, and wisdom to help us: Gerald Friede, Dr. Sharo Raissi, Dr. Rola Saouaf, Dr. Wouter Schievink. Thank you seems so little in light of all you do to care for the lives of those with BAVD/TAAD.

We are also very indebted to each one who bravely spoke of their experience with BAVD and TAAD - both during the sessions and informally. Thank you for your willingness to speak of both the joy and the tragedy that has touched your lives.

As you look at the pictures, I know many of you would like to have joined us.
Please click here to view videos from the sessions.  We are investigating creating DVDs of some of the sessions also. Please check back on the web site, where it will be announced when it becomes available.

"We all truly are a family of heart."

Someone who attended the Conference wrote these words to me afterwards. It was encouraging to know that we had made a difference in her life.

BAVD/TAAD can be very difficult, but there is no need to face it alone.

There are those who understand and care;
together they are
creating a climate of hope.

Sincerely,
Arlys Velebir
