2nd Annual Conference
September 2007
Michael Kirk, RN, was a cardiac ICU nurse at the time he experienced aortic dissection. Click here to view the video.
Dianna Rose and her brother, John Johnston, spoke about BAVD in their familyClick here to view their story.
Living with Bicuspid Aortic Valve Disease
Acute Aortic Syndrome and Aortic Dissection
Richard Houchin is an aortic dissection survivor. February 4, 2008 was the fourth anniversary of his dissecction. While describing his experience,  Richard also spoke about Brian Cleary, who was with him and called 911 when Richard collapsed. Unknown to anyone, Brian also had an ascending aortic aneurysm in his chest at that moment. Thanks to Richard, Brian had elective aortic surgery. Click here to view the video.
One of the conference sessions consisted of a panel of five individuals: Richard Houchin, Carrie Mettler, Jen Lopez, Michael Kirk, and Jennifer Simon. All of these individuals have some form of thoracic aortic disease except one, Jennifer Simon. Jennifer's husband, Ken, died in the emergency room from an undiagnosed aortic dissection. Today, Jennifer serves on the patient safety committee of the hospital where her husband died.  Click here to view the video.
The Bicuspid Aortic Foundation is very indebted to each one who bravely spoke of their experience with BAVD and TAAD at the Second Annual Conference in 2007.

The Bicuspid Aortic Foundation is an entirely voluntary organization. Those who give not only their time but their personal experience with a serious and potentially deadly condition, do so out of a desire to create greater awareness about BAVD and TAAD.
